DIPLOMA IN PHARMACY (D.Pharm)

A E S C P was started to produce quality pharmacist with diploma in pharmacy who could serve in community and hospital pharmacy. The D.Pharm course was started in 2015.We has a total intake of 60 students in each academic year.

Duration: 2 Years

Approved by P C I, Newdelhi and Sanctioned by Govt. of Kerala.

Eligibility: Keralites are eligible for admission except for the seat reserved for the nominees of the Govt. of Pudhuchery, union territory of Lakshdweep and Andaman and Nicobar islands. Applicants, who are non Keralites and who has undergone the qualifying course in Kerala and who are sons and daughters of the central Govt. employees and defense personnel posted to Kerala are also eligible for admission provided such employees have served in the state for a minimum of two years.

Qualification: The applicants should have passed Pre-Degree/Plus Two/Equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics as optional subjects. The applicant should have completed 17 years. The upper age limit is 35 years.

Pharmaceutical services have been invaluable to society for many centuries and have assumed greater importance in our times when “wonder drugs” have become so commonplace that they are almost taken for granted .The holder of the D.pharm after licensure by the state board of pharmacy will be sought after in many areas.

The community practice of pharmacy  is the most important means by which  pharmacist may practice community pharmacy in an independent pharmacy, in the capacity of a staff pharmacist , a manager ,or ,in time or as an owner .The pharmacist may serve as a staff pharmacist in the chain drug store or in a managerial position .Hospital pharmacies have greatly expanded their services in recent years and most hospitals have a pharmacy department which employs a substantial number of staff  pharmacist in addition to technical and clerical personnel .Pharmacists with the proper qualifications and experience can look forward to assuming the position of the chief pharmacist or clinical pharmacist in a pharmacy department of a hospital.

The pharmaceutical industry, which manufactures a wide variety of potent and effective medicinal substances, many pharmacists’ works in various capacities. Also some of them are engaged in sales, formulation, manufacturing, quality control and development activities.

Few professions offer the variety of specializations and opportunities, as well as the remuneration, that the profession of pharmacy does .Pharmacy can offer a challenging, satisfying and rewarding career to the individuals whose interest lie in health services to the public, business, scientific research, college teaching, hospital practice and many other areas.
